Glendale Student Leaders
The Glendale Student Leader club is a group of third grade students dedicated to making a difference in our school and our community. We focus on helping our community through our “SOCK-Tober” sock drive, donating socks to at-risk youth, a winter drive collecting personal items for veterans and soldiers deployed overseas, and the spring food drive - all of these drives are promoted by the student leaders through creating flyers, collecting and sorting items, and helping to prepare the items for pick up.
The Glendale Student Leaders also walk in the yearly homecoming parade as representatives of our school, and promote inclusivity and model appropriate school behavior. They help to prepare school wide projects, like last year’s Valentine’s Day display - “Reasons why we LOVE Glendale”. These dedicated students support their school and community in many ways, and are always ready to be called to action!
Peacemakers is a club for third graders that focuses on learning and choosing peaceful solutions to problems at home, in the school/community, and in our world. Each meeting highlights 2 world peacemakers, and teaches an aspect of peaceful relating (actions and words). The Peacemakers club has identified two “Buddy Benches” on the playground for kids at recess who are looking for someone with whom to play. It also has upcycled a sign “Peace Works” made of used plastic lids. This school year, it sponsored a “peace essay” contest, and for the past three years, it has coordinated a peace exhibit in the garden at Glendale School around September 20 which is International Peace Day. Children are recruited for the club by flyers which are sent home in the bookbags. Parents of members are welcome to attend meetings, drop in on projects and encourage Peace in everything!
Culture Kids Club
Culture Kids Club was designed to explore modern and ancient culture through literature, art, music, food, and dance. Parents volunteers are welcome.
Kids Garden Club meets on the third Tuesday of the month for 3 months in the fall (September, October, November) and for 3 months in the Spring (February, March, April). 25 students are chosen for the fall and 25 for the spring, through the use of a lottery system. Kerry Boscarello is in charge of the lottery. Students can be in grades K-3, with 3rd graders who have not been in the club yet having first priority. During each meeting, the students listen to a story, complete a craft, or do hands on work in the garden. The goal of the club is for students to be exposed to our school garden and learn about the process of growing and using things from the garden.
Glendale’s Running Club
Our club is growing in popularity! We invite 20 second and third graders to train with us for the Bedford Foundation Run in the Spring. Beginning 6 weeks prior to the Foundation Run, our students meet two times a week for one hour. For the past 3 years we have been accepting sponsorship from the Rotary Club as well as J.Barker Landscaping Co. to cover the cost of all runners who signs up with a registered/paying adult to run beside for the race. We are seeking more sponsorship for additional students in our district who would like to run with a registered adult. Parent volunteers are always welcomed… Come train with us! ;)
