BCSD makes "herstory"

The Bedford City School District is making “herstory.”

For the first time, the leader of both the district and Bedford High School are African American women.

Dr. Cassandra Johnson, interim superintendent, is the first African American woman to lead BCSD. Khalisha Lewis, BHS principal, is the first African American woman to serve in that role.

Ms. Lewis, a BHS alumna, previously served for four years as an assistant principal at BHS before the Bedford Board of Education appointed her principal.

Dr. Johnson served in the assistant superintendent role at BCSD for nearly five years before the board selected her as the interim superintendent.
