Bedford Board of Education Votes to Purchase Chanel Property
On April 4, 2018, the Bedford Board of Education voted to purchase the former St. Peter Chanel Catholic High School School property, located at 480 Northfield Road, directly across the street from the District's Administration Center. The Board of Education is purchasing the Chanel property to secure the land for potential future use. This purchase is consistent with the District’s 5-year strategic plan and with recent community feedback. There is a 60-day due diligence period and if the property passes inspections, the Board will take possession in early June.
The purchase will be financed over a number of years using the Permanent Improvement Fund as collateral, not the District’s General Operating Fund.
The District is in the beginning stages of analyzing options for its facilities and recently conducted four focus groups and an online survey to gather feedback from stakeholders.
“This is exciting news as it folds into our strategic plan on Facilities and Infrastructure and our plans for the future” said Superintendent Dr. Andrea Celico. “I appreciate the input we have received from our staff, parents, and community members about the future of our schools.”
In the coming years, the District will work with the Ohio School Facilities Commission to create an overall facilities master plan. However, there is a lot of work to be done before then; so for now, the District is considering ways to utilize the Chanel property to benefit the schools and maximize the District's investment. The District will provide updates and keep the community informed of decisions and progress.
