Dr. Cassandra Johnson
Dr. Cassandra J. Johnson is in her 32nd year as a public educator. She currently serves as Superintendent of the Bedford City School District, where she previously held the role of Assistant Superintendent for three years. Beyond her professional life, she has been married to her husband, Ken, for 27 years, and together they are raising two sons.
Dr. Johnson earned her undergraduate degree in Computer Science Education from Ashland University in 1994. That same year, she began her career at Dublin City Schools, teaching at Grizzell Middle School during its inaugural year. She taught there for five years while completing her Master’s degree in Computer Science (Curriculum & Instruction) and later obtaining her 4–9 and 7–12 Principal Licensure, also from Ashland University. She went on to earn her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Superintendent Licensure from Concordia University Chicago in December 2014.
After relocating to the Cleveland area with her husband in 2000, Dr. Johnson joined the Lakewood City Schools as a computer education teacher at Emerson Middle School. Within three years, she transitioned into administration, serving as assistant principal at Emerson for three years. She then moved to Parma City Schools, where she served as Assistant Principal and later became the first African American Principal of Parma Senior High School, a role she held for six years. She was later promoted to Director of Human Resources for the district, serving in that capacity for another six years.
In addition to her leadership roles, Dr. Johnson is deeply engaged in professional organizations. She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated; President-Elect of the Ohio Association of School Personnel Administrators (OASPA); former Zone 6 Director of the Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators (OASSA); past President of the Cleveland Area Minority Educator Recruitment Association (CAMERA); an active member of Metro CABSE; and a member of the OASSA Women’s Leadership Conference Committee. She has also served as an adjunct professor at Baldwin Wallace University, Concordia University Chicago, and Walsh University.
She is the mother of two amazing young men: Keon, a senior at Kent State University studying Construction Management, and Kellon, a freshman at the Colorado School of Mines majoring in Environmental Engineering.
