BACKGROUND DOCUMENTS

On February 16, 42 local stakeholders representing a diverse cross-section of our communities, including staff, administration, students, parents, business people, members of the clergy and our community met for more than 7 hours to shape the Building a Brighter Future Plan. This visioning session included conversations and videos outlining current and anticipated facilities and curriculum needs, case studies, group discussions, and hands-on activities. The District is thankful to Mt. Zion of Oakwood Village for hosting this important event.

The goal of the day was to establish clear statements about appropriate and effective educational practices, school organizational structure, and concepts for the school facilities needed to support them. There were three sections to the day: (1) the district’s current successes and challenges, (2) defining where the district wants to go with educational delivery and how other districts handle similar challenges; and (3) how the district could move toward the goals and concepts identified.

The Visioning Session and the hard work of our dedicated volunteers now sets the framework for planning and executing the Building a Brighter Future Plan.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Building a Brighter Future plan was the result of hundreds of residents, parents, staff, and business people providing input and study followed by a successful bond issue last November. This is truly a community-driven plan that will transform Bedford City Schools.

The plan focuses on safety, state-of-the-art education, and expansion of both Career Tech and Pre-K to provide broader opportunities for our children. The new buildings will also have the latest safety tools and tactics to ensure our children and staff are safe.

The District engaged GPD as the architectural firm and Panzica Construction as the construction manager at-risk. The team has been busy engaging stakeholders to ensure those impacted by design decisions have a voice in the process.
