BARBARA A. PATTERSON, President
Mrs. Patterson was appointed to the Board in 2002; she was elected in 2003 and re-elected in 2007. She was Vice President in 2005 and 2007, and President in 2008. She has served more than 30 years in the field of education, having been an Assistant Principal at John F. Kennedy High School, Max S. Hayes Vocational School, Thomas Jefferson Middle School, John Hay High School, and Central Middle School, all in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. She also was a teacher of health, physical education, and science in the Cleveland Schools. In addition, she was a detention officer at the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center. Mrs. Patterson is a member of the Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators. She has a Master’s Degree in Administration and Supervision from Cleveland State University; a Bachelor’s Degree in Health, Physical Education, and Science from Bluefield State College in Bluefield, W.V.; and a diploma from the Philadelphia School of Practical Nursing in Philadelphia, Pa. She has been president of the Ohio School Boards Association's Black Caucus for the past four years. She and her husband, James, reside in Oakwood Village. Mrs. Patterson’s term expires on December 31, 2011.

JOSEPH V. MESTNIK, Vice President
Mr. Mestnik served on the Bedford Board from 1990-1997 and from 2004 to the present. He was Vice President in 1993 and President in 1994, 1996, 1997, and 2006. He is the Editor of the Liberty News & Views, the community newspaper serving Bedford, Bedford Heights, Oakwood Village, and Walton Hills. He is also President of Alpha Consulting Alliance, a business development, third party federal real and personal property tax specialist and "root cause" analysis specialist firm. Mr. Mestnik served on the Oakwood Village Council from 1974-1980. He originated senior snow plowing of driveways that spread throughout the northern United States. He also was chairman of the Oakwood Village Planning Commission from 1971-1974 and was a commissioned officer in the US Navy from 1965-69 (Vietnam). The Bedford Sun Banner selected him as one of the most influential people locally in 2006. He is a 1961 graduate of Bedford High School, a 1965 graduate of Purdue University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and minor in Economics, and a 1979 graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking. A district and state wrestling champ, Mr. Mestnik was inducted into the high school’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000. He is a member of the Bedford Rotary Club, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Church of the Resurrection, and Mt. Zion of Oakwood Village Cultural Hall of Fame. A resident of Oakwood Village, he has three sons, all graduates of Bedford High School. His term expires on December 31, 2011.

DEBORA J. KOZAK, Board Member
Mrs. Kozak was appointed to the Board in 2004; she was elected in 2005 and re-elected in 2009. She was Vice President in 2006, 2008, and 2009, and President in 2007. She is a buyer and pricing analyst for the employee-owned Joseph Industries, Inc. of Streetsboro, Ohio, an industrial distributor of driveline parts. Since 1992, she has served on the ESOP Committee appointed by the Board of Directors, which oversees the Retirement Plan of employee owners. Mrs. Kozak has been an active school volunteer for many years. She is a 23-year member of the PTA and has been a Treasurer, Secretary, and President of various building PTAs. She also was Council Delegate and Treasurer to the Bedford Council of PTAs. She received the PTA Lifetime Member Award in 2001. Mrs. Kozak is a member of the Superintendent's Roundtable, Bedford City Schools Foundation Board of Trustees, Bedford Band and Orchestra Parents (BBOP), where she served as BBOP treasurer for three years and concession chairperson. A 1971 Bedford High School graduate, she has a Bachelor's of Education Degree in Physical Education and Health from Ohio University. She has three children and two stepchildren, all Bedford High School graduates. She and her husband, Terry, reside in Walton Hills. Mrs. Kozak’s term expires on December 31, 2013.

TIM TENCH, Board Member
Mr. Tench joined the Board in 2006 and was elected to his second term in November 2009. He was president in 2009. A graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Medical Massage, he is the owner of Hands on Wellness, a massage therapy business. Mr. Tench is retired from the Cleveland Heights/University Heights (CH/UH) School District, where he worked for 22 years as a tradesman. He also served as secretary and vice president of the Ohio Association of Public School Employees Chapter #617. Mr. Tench served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1971 to 1977. He is also a member of the band AKA. A life-long Bedford resident and 1969 graduate of Bedford High School, he was 1st team all-conference, captain, and Most Valuable Player for the Bearcats Varsity baseball team. He was a member of a Bedford School District Strategic Planning Action Team in 2003, and currently serves on the Superintendent's Roundtable, and Bedford City Schools Foundation Board of Trustees. He has two daughters, both graduates of Bedford High School. Mr. Tench's current term expires on December 31, 2013.

PHIL STEVENS, Board Member
Mr. Stevens joined the Board in January 2010. A 26-year educator and Bedford Heights resident, his career began as an Industrial Technology/Computer teacher, and track and basketball coach in the Cleveland Municipal School District. He also taught and coached junior high volleyball, boys’ and girls’ track, boys’ and girls’ basketball, baseball, and high school football in the Cleveland Heights/University Heights School District. From 1990-1998, he was middle school Athletic Director. In 1991, he coached freshman and varsity basketball for the Bedford Bearcats. He joined the Warrensville Heights School District in 1998 as District Athletic Administrator and Student Activity Director. He is active in both the Ohio and Northeast Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrator Associations (OHSAA), including the OHSAA Northeast District Athletic Board (currently president), OHSAA certified referee for football and basketball; and a member of the OHSAA State Board of Directors, Diversity Committee, and Officials Advisory Committee. Other affiliations include the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials (IAABO), Cleveland Football Officials Association (CFOA), Lake Erie Basketball Official Association (LEBOA) and National Federation High School Equity Committee. He is a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. Mr. Stevens has a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Central State University and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership Administration from Ashland University. He and his wife, Barretta, a Bedford High School graduate and school volunteer, have two children. Phil Jr. is a junior at Bedford High, and Kristen, a BHS graduate and honor student, attends Cleveland State University. Mr. Stevens’ term expires on December 31, 2013.
