BHS senior Charles Bluford did a science internship for the Cleveland Clinic’s 2012 Office of Civic Education Initiatives Summer Internship Program. He worked with a mentor from the Clinic on a research project called "t-PA Effects on Blood Clots During Strokes Through Physical Therapy Analysis".
In addition, Cleveland Clinic also has a program called eXpressions that utilizes creative expression to engage high school students in the world of scientific research. Students produce artistic interpretations of research studies conducted by the Cleveland Clinic science interns.
Three students from area high schools chose Charles’ research to base their projects on! A picture of Charles and his mentor, along with their names and a synopsis of their research, hang adjacent to the artwork which is on display at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Charles also did a 2011 summer internship with the Clinic. He plans to attend either Gannon University or Westminster College, both in Pa., to study biomedical engineering, and eventually earn his PhD.
