BEDFORD HIGH SCHOOL AND HESKETT MIDDLE SCHOOL

2013-2014

HESKETT MIDDLE SCHOOL

Cheerleading is not an Ohio High School Athletic Association sponsored sport. The activity also doesn’t have scored contests with other schools, so OHSAA eligibility standards do not apply to the students involved. In the Bedford City School District, middle school cheerleading will be recognized as a student activity and an athletic team. Cheerleaders will be held to student activity eligibility standards, but will not be financially responsible for purchasing uniforms. They will be responsible for purchasing any other equipment similar to the high school, but limited to the coach’s preference and the student’s desires. The athletic department will purchase uniforms only. Cheerleaders will be allowed to use the windbreakers warm-ups that swimming and the track team use for cold weather football games.

 

HESKETT BASKETBALL CHEERLEADER

Boys Basketball Cheerleader Clinics: Mon, Oct 28 & Tues Oct 29, 3-5pm at Heskett Gymnasium

Tryouts: Friday, November 1, 2013, 4 to 5pm at BHS Auxilairy gym. Girls will be transported by school bus to BHS and parents are to pick up their child promptly at 5pm.

Judges: The Heskett head coach, along with BHS head and assistant coaches and impartial judges will judge students on performance of cheers, formulate a scoring system and forward all results to the athletic office.

Eligibility requirements: Must maintain at least a 2.00 GPA at the end of 1st Quarter

Equipment needed: Uniform supplied by the school.  Parent(s) need to purchase shoes, socks and pompoms.

Restrictions: Heskett cheerleaders will only attend basketball home games

Cheers: Are to be positive, supportive of the bearcat team and for the purpose of motivating the crowd.

BEDFORD HIGH SCHOOL

Cheerleading is not an Ohio High School Athletic Association sponsored sport. The activity also doesn’t have scored contests with other schools so OHSAA eligibility standards do not apply to the students involved. In the Bedford City School District, high school cheerleading will be recognized dually as a student activity and an athletic team. Cheerleaders will be held to student activity eligibility standards and like all other student activities be financially responsible for equipment. That financial responsibility will be minimalized due to cheerleading being connected to an athletic teams (football and basketball). The athletic department will purchase uniforms, warm ups and travel bags, but the students will be obligated to pay a minimal usage fee each season.

BEDFORD BASKETBALL CHEERLEADER

Interested candidates must pick-up a tryout packet at the clinics or get one from the Athletic Office on Thursday, October 24.

Basketball Cheerleader Clinics: Wednesday October 23 and Thursday October 24, 2013  2:45 - 5:00pm

Clinics online: The Clinic routines and cheers will be available online for those who missed the above listed dates.

Target grades: 9-10th grade students may only tryout for the Junior Varsity Team 11-12th grade students may only tryout for the Varsity team: An 11th grade student may be on Junior Varsity if the squad has less than the maximum (7 or less).  A 10th grade student may be placed on Varsity if the squad has less than the maximum (7 or less).

Tryout: Friday November 1, 2013  2:45-5pm

Judge: The judges will be comprised of the BHS Varsity and Assistant Cheerleading coaches and up to (3) impartial cheerleading coaches, former or present not affiliated with the Bedford City School District.

Tryout notification: A list of those students that made the teams will be posted.

Maximum: 8 Varsity and 8 Junior Varsity (8 is OHSAA standard for football playoffs and basketball games due to sideline safety. Varsity Cheerleaders will receive a Varsity pin with their name and identifying them as part of the Varsity squad.

Equipment needed: The uniform, windbreaker warm-up, and travel bag will be supplied by the athletic department. The student will be responsible for the purchase of the following from the athletic department; socks, spanks, pompoms, gloves, earmuff headband, long sleeve spandex top and hair tassels  Student will be responsible for purchasing team shoes. Coach will instruct student what type/color shoe to purchase.
