District Welcomes New Assistant Superintendent
Dr. Cassandra Johnson

The Bedford City School District welcomes a new Assistant Superintendent this school year, as the Bedford Board of Education approved the appointment of Cassandra Johnson, Ph.D. at the June 8, 2017 meeting. Her current contract is effective August 1, 2017 through July 31, 2020.

Dr. Johnson comes to Bedford from the Parma City School District, where she served as Human Resources Director for the last seven years. Prior to that, she was the Building Principal at Parma Senior High School for six years. She also served as an Assistant Principal at both Parma Senior High School and at Emerson Middle School in Lakewood. Before moving into Administration, Dr. Johnson taught Computer Science at Emerson Middle School, Grizzell Middle School in Dublin, Ohio, and at Lakeland Community College. She was an Adjunct Professor at both Baldwin Wallace University and the University of Concordia in Chicago, Illinois.

“I wish to express my deepest appreciation for the continuous warm welcome from staff, students, the administrative team, and community members. I truly feel blessed to work in a community that cares so very deeply and expresses such passion for the students and the school community as a whole,” Dr. Johnson said. “While serving in the capacity of the Assistant Superintendent, I will always strive to assist in the achievement of the district’s strategic planning goals by working collaboratively to recruit, recommend for hire, and retain the best teaching candidates for our students.”

Dr. Johnson earned both a Bachelor of Education degree and a Master of Education degree in Computer Science from Ashland University and a Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Educational Leadership from the University of Concordia. Her doctoral dissertation focused on “how urban school districts can better motivate high-quality teachers to remain teaching in an urban school district.”

The main responsibility of the Assistant Superintendent of the Bedford Schools is to oversee all activities associated with the recruitment, selection, evaluation, certification and contractual status of all certified (teaching) personnel.
