Beauty and the Beast is a musical based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature. It is the story of an independent minded young woman named Belle, from a provincial French town in the 1700s. When her father is taken captive, she goes to rescue him and stumbles on an enchanted castle and a Beast, who is actually a young prince under a spell. The Beast is cursed to remain in animal form unless he can learn to love and be loved in return. Unfortunately, time is running out, and Belle seems to be his only hope of finding freedom. The musical uses the Alan Menken and Howard Ashman songs from the film and includes some new songs by Menken and Tim Rice.
