Karla Robinson
Principal of Columbus School

Dear Columbus Intermediate School Parents /Guardians,

It is with honor and great pleasure that I greet you as the new Principal of Columbus Intermediate School. I have had the privilege to spend twenty-five years, my entire educational career, here in our wonderful Bedford City Schools District.  To give you a little background of my educational experiences, I have taught first, second and sixth grades. The past four years of my career were spent at Bedford High School as an administrator. Given my past experiences, I want to assure you that I understand the academic and social/emotional needs of elementary children.

This year, Columbus Intermediate School will also have a Dean of Students.  Mrs. Tricia Seuffert comes to us after spending fifteen years at Bedford High School. Formerly an English teacher, an Academic Coaching coordinator and Dean of Students for the Ninth Grade.  Mrs. Seuffert is excited to bring her experiences to an intermediate level and learn alongside the faculty, staff, and students.

Columbus Intermediate School will continue its theme of “Creating a Culture of Excellence” for the 2017 -2018 school year. This will be accomplished by focusing on the education of the whole child. Academic achievement remains our number one goal.  However, social and emotional growth and development remain pertinent to a child’s success. We are reminded that learning occurs in many ways, and we will strive to meet the needs of each child. We are dedicated to providing our students with a rigorous education and appropriate challenges. By teaching grit to our students, we will inspire resiliency and confidence to learn without giving up. In addition, we believe strongly in fostering a family atmosphere.

At Columbus Intermediate School our atmosphere will encourage respect and trust of the students, faculty and staff. When a child feels safe, respected and trusted, he or she learns how to problem solve and make connections to his or her everyday life. Your child will be able to fully participate in the experiences and opportunities that the school setting has to offer. In this educational setting, the students of Columbus Intermediate School will be given the tools they need to become successful, involved adolescents and life-long learners.

Building relationships with our parents and families is very important to us. We will continue to have various events and programs to involve you in the educational process.  My staff and I look forward to working with you and your child this school year.  Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or the office if you have any questions or concerns.
